Birthday Party

Dress Code: Come as you are, but color, sparkle, feathers, sequins, and a touch of Carnaval glamour are highly encouraged!
Accommodation
If you want to be in the middle of the Carnival energy, stay in Rio’s South Zone (Zona Sul) — particularly Leblon, Ipanema or Copacabana. You’ll be close to the beaches, restaurants, nightlife and many of the city’s Carnival celebrations.
If you’d rather have more beach, more space and a little less Carnival chaos, Barra da Tijuca is a great alternative. It has beautiful beaches and excellent hotels, but you’ll be farther from most of the traditional Carnival action.
When should I come?
If you want the full experience, plan to arrive in Rio around Friday, February 5 or Saturday, February 6 and stay through at least Monday, February 15.
That gives you time for Carnival, the Sambadrome, the Champions’ Parade, the birthday party — and hopefully a little beach and recovery somewhere in between.
And yes, Rio keeps celebrating after official Carnival ends. Things calm down, but the party doesn’t disappear overnight.

Santa Teresa
Perched on the hills above downtown Rio, Santa Teresa is one of the city’s most charming and artistic neighborhoods. Known for its winding streets, historic mansions, ateliers, and bohemian atmosphere, the area offers a quieter, more intimate side of Rio. With beautiful views, local cafés, and a strong cultural identity, Santa Teresa feels both timeless and authentic — making it a perfect and memorable setting for our celebration.
Carnaval
If you’re coming all the way to Rio, you might as well do Carnival properly.
Rio Carnival officially takes place from Friday, February 5 through Wednesday, February 10, 2027 — but in reality, the city starts celebrating long before that.
In the weeks leading up to Carnival, samba schools hold rehearsals, street parties start popping up across the city, and Rio slowly turns into one big celebration.
Two very different Carnival experiences
Street Carnival — Blocos
Blocos are free street parties that take place all over Rio, from small neighborhood gatherings to huge crowds dancing behind live bands. No tickets, no assigned seats — just show up, dress accordingly and join the party.
The Sambadrome
This is the iconic Rio Carnival you’ve probably seen on TV: spectacular samba schools, thousands of performers, elaborate costumes and floats competing in all-night parades. These are ticketed events and need to be planned in advance.
There are also plenty of private parties, balls, concerts and events happening throughout Carnival week. The best ones change every year, so we’ll share our recommendations and make plans once the official 2027 line-up is announced.
Saturday Night: Champions’ Parade
On Saturday, February 13, the night before my birthday, the Sambadrome hosts the Champions’ Parade, when the top samba schools return for one final celebration.
This is usually my favorite night at the Sambadrome — and most likely where you’ll find me on Saturday.
Then, on Sunday, we recover the only reasonable way: feijoada, samba and another party.
